»Wireless Registration
There are two types of registration on the OSU Wireless Network: temporary and permanent*. Temporary access uses your ONID authentication to give you 600 minutes of internet access before you are redirected to the welcome page and have to enter your credentials again. If you choose to do the permanent registration, you will not have to enter this information every time and your
device will be ready as soon as it gets a connection. We strongly recommend registering your device permanently in Maintain. To register your device from the registration page, follow these steps:
- Click the link that says "Show Your Wirless Hardware Address". Copy your hardware address from the next page then click the back button in your browser.
- Click the link that says "Click Here to Register" then log in with your ONID username and password.
- Read through the acceptable use policy, check the box at the botton indicating your compliance with the use policies, then click "I agree".
- On the next screen, paste the value for your hardware address(it should be 12 values, ranging from 0-1 and A-F, excluding colons and spaces) into the text box and be sure that the type is set to Wireless. Click "Add Hardware Address" then click "Continue" on the next screen.
- Wait 5-10 minutes for your comptuer to be registered. If you want to use the internet immediately, you can do the temporary login back at the registration page.
- Congratulations! You are now registered permanently on the OSU Network.
*Note: Permanent registration only refers to the times when you have an active ONID account. An active ONID account is required for access to the OSU wireless network.
»ONID Passwords now Require a Yearly Update
To increase the security of ONID accounts, we will begin implementing password expiration on all ONID accounts this month. All ONID users will be required to change their ONID password once a year. *** One month before your ONID password expires, you will receive a warning email.
*** One week before your ONID password expires, you will receive daily warning emails.
If you allow your ONID password to expire, you will not be able to use your ONID account until you set a new password. An ONID account is required for many OSU services including Blackboard, OSU Wireless, and VPN.
Please be aware that OSU computer support personnel will NEVER ask for your password. Any email asking for your password is a phishing email.Do NOT respond to phishing emails.
If your ONID password has expired, you can follow these instructions to reset it. NOTE: You will need your OSU ID Number as well as your GAP.
1) Visit this website: ONID Password Change
2) Enter your OSU ID Number as well as your GAP.
3) Select a new password. NOTE: this cannot be the same as your old password
We recommend using a PassPhrase. For more information on PassPhrases, visit The Wiki-Page on them.
4) Login to a service that requires an ONID authentication to verify the new password was accepted (Resources that use ONID include:
Blackboard,
ONID Webmail, or
an on-campus computer).
»Recent phishing attacks
Oregon State has recently been hit by phishing attempts, a few asking for network account passwords. We want to remind you, NEVER give your passwords to ANYONE and NEVER respond to SPAM e-mail messages. For information on how to detect some of these phishing attempts please visit this page.
