Tech Tip: Updating SAV

Critical SAV Updates

Symantec recently released a critical update for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0, which was included on the OSUware 2006 CD. Anyone who installed Symantec AntiVirus on their computer from the OSUware 2006 CD is strongly advised to upgrade to the most current version. Please follow the instructions below to upgrade or patch your unmanaged (off campus) computer.

Departmental Computer Administrators can obtain the managed version of the Symantec AntiVirus client which is preconfigured to connect to the campus Virus Definition Server (AVCENTER) from the Softdist distribution server. Finding your version of Symantec AntiVirus

You can determine which version of Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) you have by opening SAV (double clicking the yellow shield in the bottom right corner of your screen) by default it should display the contents of the Symantec Antivirus directory which will tell you the program version.

Upgrading to Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.401

We strongly recommend that students, faculty and staff obtain the latest release by logging in to http://secure.oregonstate.edu/osuware with their ONID ID and password. This comprehensive upgrade addresses several issues that Symantec has reported throughout the year and will ensure that you have the most current version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition

If you do not have an ONID account we recommend that you identify and install the correct patch for the version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10 currently installed on your computer.

Patches

If you are unable to install the upgrade above you will need to download a specific patch for the version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10 installed on your computer. Please identify your version (see instructions above) and click on the appropriate link to install the patch.

**Please note that versions marked in bold do NOT require additional patching.**

To Install the Patch:

Click on the patch that matches your current version
Save the file to your desktop
Double-Click SAVCE_10.X.X.XXXX_AllWin_EN.zip
Double-Click SAVCE_10.X.X.XXXX_AllWin_EN.msp
Install Window comes up
Click Update
This will take several minutes, Click Finish when finished
Click Yes when prompted to restart. Once your computer restarts, you are all done. Don't forget to run LiveUpdate to get the latest virus definitions.
