Getting Your Hardware Address

Windows 9x - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Start Button -> Run -> Type "winipcfg" without the quotes and hit enter
  • Write down the twelve-digit Adapter Address as shown below, yours will be different, you may need to select your card from the dropdown list. If the only one you see starts with 44-45 then you do not have an Ethernet Adapter installed and must install one first.
  • Click the "Ok" button to close the window

Windows 2000 - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Start Button -> Run -> Type "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter
  • Type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and press enter.
  • Write down the twelve-digit Hardware Address as shown below, yours will be different. If you only see one starts with 44-45 then you likely do not have an Ethernet Adapter install and must install one first.

Windows XP - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Start Button -> Run -> type "cmd" without the quotes
  • In the black window, type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes
  • Write down the twelve-digit Hardware Address as show below, yours will be different. If the only one you see starts with 44-45 then you do not have an Ethernet Adapter installed and must install one first.

Windows Vista - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Start Button -> Type "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter
  • In the Command Box that comes up, type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes and hit enter
  • Write down the twelve-digit Physical Address as shown below, yours will be different. Make sure you write down the one listed under the "wireless adapter" section, not any of the "Local Area Connection" sections.

Mac OS 9 - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> TCP/IP Control Panel
  • File Menu -> Get Info
  • Write down your Hardware (Adapter) Address which is the twelve-digit string.
  • Click the "Ok" button and then close the control panel

Mac OS X - Getting Your Hardware Address

  • Apple Menu -> System Preferences
  • Network Control Panel -> TCP/IP Tab
  • Write down your Ethernet Address which is the twelve-digit string in the lower part of the window.
  • Close the window once you have this number written down.
