»What is OSUware?

The OSUware CD contains numerous applications that will help you with your work while you are at Oregon State University. These applications include internet browsers, e-mail programs, and other miscellaneous utilities. The CD also contains everything you need to get connected to the internet with the Residential Network, Wireless Network, and the AT&T Global Dialer.

If you experience any difficulties installing software or following instructions on the CD, please check the Known Issues section of this website. If the problem is not posted on the website, please let us know about it by filling out the Feedback Form or by contacting OSU Computer Helpdesk.

»Where can I get OSUware?

The OSUware CD is available to current OSU students, staff, faculty, and emeriti. You can get an OSUware CD at the following locations:

  • The Circulation desk located on the main floor of the Valley Library.
  • The Milne computer lab.

»How do I use OSUware?

System Requirements:

To use the OSUware CD, you will need the following:

  • Windows XP or above (Some programs will work on older version of Windows but we make no guarantees)
  • Macintosh OS X

Loading the CD:

  • Windows users: To load OSUware, simply insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and the program should load automatically. If the program does not load automatically, browse the CD and double-click on the "Click Here to Start (Win)" icon.
  • Macintosh users: please double click on the "click_here_to_start_mac" file to load the CD

»What is available on the OSUware CD?

The following is an explanation of each section you will find on the CD:

Selecting your Operating System - This section provides you the option of selecting your OS to navigate straight to the software that is compatiable with your machine.
Get Connected - This section provides links to software and help documents that will help you get your Macintosh or Windows PC on the internet ResNet (on-campus residence halls & cooperative houses), the OSU wireless Network (certain on-campus locations), or the AT&T Global Dialer.
The Software - Each software page has a section which provides links to install the available software for Macintosh or Windows PC. Each page includes information about each application.
Help & Support - The documents in this section provide further information and support to OSU students, faculty and staff. This section also contains important contact information for OSU Computer Helpdesk, ResNet and E-Campus.
OSU Extended Campus - This section provides an overview of OSU Extended Campus, including distance degrees and programs available, and a sample listing of distance course subjects.
OSU Cascades Campus - This section provides information about OSU's Cascades Campus in Bend, OR.
Blackboard - This section provides information about the OSU Blackboard Portal and common questions that are asked by students/staff/faculty.
Feedback - This page allows you to provide feedback on the OSUware CD.
Credits - This page contains information about all the people involved with the OSUware project

»Software available on OSUware:

First you will select which operating system you are using, next you will be taken to the software section(s). The software sections in the OSUware CD are broken down into several different categories:

Security
Internet
Utilities
Work and School
Multimedia

For a complete list of software available on the CD, see the Software List.

Each page includes information about the application, as well as the criteria needed for you to install and run the application on your computer. Additionally, there is information on who can use each application and any special instructions needed to install the program.

If you require assistance with software that is denoted as supported, you can contact OSU Computer Helpdesk for support. For software that is not supported, we offer suggestions for support in the software description. If you are unable to resolve your problems, you can contact OSU Computer Helpdesk but we may be unable to resolve your issues.
