Software Tip : Lookout for Microsoft Outlook

Lookout Overview

Lookout is a lightning-fast search for your e-mail, files, and desktop integrated with Microsoft Outlook™. Built on top of a powerful search engine, Lookout is the only personal search engine that can search all of your e-mail from directly within Outlook - in seconds... You can use Lookout to search:

  • E-mail messages
  • Contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, etc.
  • Data from exchange, POP, IMAP, PST files, Public Folders
  • Files on your computer or other computers

Just enter your search and press enter. Results are instant. Lookout will find your search terms hiding nearly anywhere in your Outlook mailbox - subject lines, message bodies, phone numbers, addresses, etc.

Lookout Installation

  • First make sure Microsoft Outlook is closed
  • Go To: http://www.lookoutsoft.com/Lookout/download.html
  • Click on Lookout 1.2.8 and save it to somewhere that is easy to access (preferably your Windows desktop)
  • Double click on the Lookout128.exe to install
  • Read the License Agreement and click on “I Agree” to continue




  • Use the Default destination folder and click Install




  • Lookout will now begin the installation. Wait until the installation is completed




  • Click “Finish” when Lookout Installation is completed.




Lookout Configuration

  • Open Outlook and the Lookout box will pop up. Click Next.




  • ">

  • Click Next.




  • Select Review Indexing Options to open a new window.




  • Select the box next to the folders you want to be included in search “index” and click ok.




  • Select Finish.




  • Close and reopen Microsoft Outlook. This may take a few moments.
  • Once open, you will notice a toolbar with a search field and “Indexer” right next to it. Select Indexer and click Start.




  • This will take several minutes to complete. Once completed click the X in the top right corner of the Indexer
  • Now all you need to do is type in a keyword to the search field and press enter.




  • A window will open with the search results and you can sort through them.
