Upgrading Cisco VPN Client in Mac OS X

Uninstalling the Old VPN Client

To uninstall the VPN client click on the Macintosh HD icon.



Choose Applications from the left-hand menu.



Click on VPNClient and drag it to the trash.



Downloading the New Version of Cisco VPN

Open a web browser like Safari or Mozilla Firefox.



Go to the web address http://oregonstate.edu/net/security/vpn/.

On this web-page look for the heading Acquire OSUSDS/VPN Client Software.



Click on the link for MacOS X.

You will be prompted to login; enter in your ONID account information.



Locate the recommended production version and click on the download link.



Choose to save the file to the desktop.



Close the web page.

Installing the New Version of VPN

To begin installing the new VPN version, double click on the vpnclient-darwin-4...l-k9.dmg.



This will create the CiscoVPNClient icon, double click that to view the Cisco VPN Client.mpkg and double click on that to begin the installation.

You may have to load the finder, to access the Cisco VPN Client package.





Click Continue in the warning window,

Click Continue and Agree to accept the license agreement.

Click Macintosh HD and Continue again.

Click Install to continue the installation process, you will have to Authenticate with your mac username and password.

You will see a progress bar displaying your installation progress. Once the progress bar has filled up you can click close.


Select the appropriate destination.



Starting the New Version of VPN

Open up the Cisco VPN client by clicking on the Macintosh HD or the finder icon, then

Click on Applications and find the VPNClient.

Double click VPNClient to open.




You will see your old connection entries still saved and ready for you to use in the VPN window. The upgrade is complete.

What to do if the Connection Entries Don't Appear

If your OSU Connection Entry isn't listed you can restore your OSU connection following the steps below.

Open a web browser like Safari or Mozilla Firefox.



Go to the web address http://oregonstate.edu/net/security/vpn/.

Click on the SDS Configuration Assistant.

You will be prompted to login; enter in your ONID account information.



The next screen will ask you a few questions that you need to answer to get the correct settings for your situation.

On this page you will see the information you will need for configuring your VPN client.
