8-17-2007 Symantec AntiVirus Maintenance Patch for Vista 32 and 64 bit clients released

These are application fixes, non-security related. Both are available on softdist. Please contact SSG for access to the SAV folder.

7-12-2007 Symantec AntiVirus vulnerability affecting RAR and CAB decompression engine

This is a high severity vulnerability involving the Symantec Decomposer which can create a DoS if scanning and infected RAR file, or the the possibility of arbitrary code execution in the case of CAB files. This affects all 10.0 client levels, all 10.1 clients below 10.1.5.5000 and all 9.0 clients below 9.0.6.1000. Please see the following link for more details:

Latest versions of Symantec clients are available on the DCA downloads page. Avcenter and Cn-Dad are both up-to-date, as are the custom installers available on the downloads site.

7-11-2007 Out of date signatures and vulnerable clients are open invitations.

The antivirus client on your computer is an important part of a defense in depth security strategy. That defense layer is lost if you don't keep the virus definitions up-to-date or you run a client with a known security vulnerability. To assist in identifying those systems we've posted a listing you can use to identify vulnerable systems that you support. Vulnerable Symantec clients are all versions 9.0.5.1100 and earlier, 10.0.2.2020 and earlier, 10.1.0.394, and 10.1.0.400.

• Systems with out-of-date virus signatures
• Systems with vulnerable clients
• Spreadsheet listing systems with old defs and vulnerable clients

6-05-2007 Symantec Reporting Server Password Disclosure SYM07-011

Symantec released an Maintenance Release (10.1.6.6000) for the reporting server. This does not affect the desktop clients, but only the optional reporting server web application. The updated software has been uploaded to Softdist2 server. Contact SSG if you need access to the files.

12-26-2006 Symantec maintenance patch for 10.1.5.5000

Symantec released a maintenance patch for this client that takes updates the client to 10.1.5.5010. Check out the "Latest Symantec AntiVirus Patches" section of the downloads page.

11-28-2006 Symantec vulnerability

It appears that there may be an exploit that takes advantage of the elevation of privileges vulnerability, SYM06-010, disclosed in May 2006. If you are running SAV CE versions 10.1.0.394; 10.1.0.400; 10.0.2.2000, 2001, 2010, or 2020; 10.0.1.1000 or 1007 you need to update your client ASAP. We posted an excel spreadsheet and a web page listing the full inventory of clients accessing AVCenter that you can use to check your client version. This file and web page require AD authentication. If you cannot access the linked files contact SSG.

8-08-2006 Symantec releases 10.1.4 Maintenance Patch 1

This is a maintenance release which will bring the 10.1.4.4000 clients and servers up to 10.1.4.4010. This is a maintenance release only, and does not address any critical security issues. This patch can only be applied to client versions 10.1.4.4000.
