Check automatic updates.

Computers managed by on-campus computer support groups receive updates automatically from the "AVCENTER" server. Users who are off campus or manage their own pc's should configure Symantec AntiVirus to receive updates automatically from Symantec's corporate web site. To do this, from the File menu, select "Schedule Updates".

Enable Auto-Protect.

Autoprotect is enabled by default in most Symantec AntiVirus installations, but to be sure, or to see if you have a problem with Symantec AntiVirus, simply check the tray icon. If your icon appears like this: savgood, then auto protect is enabled.

When auto protect is disabled the icon changes to this: savbad. Right click on the icon and select "Enable Auto-Protect". If that doesn't work, you may need to re-install the client.

Scan your computer

Once your AntiVirus protection is up to date, a complete computer scan is recommended. Click on "Full Scan" in the left pane and then click the "Scan" button.
